Milk Street is redefining food media. Our unique and trusted content–spanning television, radio and podcasts, cookbooks, magazines, and digital media–drives our mission to “Change the Way You Cook” by making global flavors and techniques accessible to American cooks.

Your job is to manage all video production assets from a culinary standpoint, for all of our digital media cooking videos, and capture footage as needed. This role requires quick, nimble coordination and scheduling with multiple departments, including our culinary, editorial, digital media, school, art, equipment, and store teams.

Formal culinary training is imperative, as well as a thorough understanding of the Milk Street brand and internal processes. You know Milk Street content when you see it, and you will constantly scour our activities for content that is exciting, fresh, and contains lesser-known techniques that will change the way our followers cook. You will adapt and improve quickly in response to feedback and constructive criticism.

You will be onsite five days per week in our Boston office and report to both our culinary manager and digital content director.


  • Attend several weekly brainstorms, take notes, and coordinate with our culinary manager to create a production schedule for relevant tests and recipe development
  • Rank each concept in order of feasibility. Create estimated deadlines for each video, and schedule video shoots 3-4 weeks in advance
  • Under the direction of our culinary manager, plan and direct culinary production for each video. Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure that all prep is planned for each shoot day and ensure that product props are in office.
  • Track shot lists on set and ensure that the video team has captured all necessary footage
  • When necessary, shoot footage for social videos (formal training not required)
  • Manage a digital and in-office content calendar
  • Create workflow systems that are best suited for multi-departmental collaboration and ensure that every relevant staff member is alerted to their part in the production process
  • Ensure that scripts and shot lists are delivered by our digital content team
  • Fact-check scripts with our articles, internal research, and editorial department
  • Track video-worthy activities throughout the company, such as equipment testings, and ensure that necessary footage is collected. You will not be asked; you will routinely check other teams’ calendars and proactively set up shoot dates
  • Ensure that all relevant assets are collected on deadline. For instance, if a social media video requires recipe development, you will ensure that the editorial and culinary teams are given immediate notice; that the art department photographs the recipe; that the web team publishes the recipe before the video runs; and that all of the ingredients are prepared for our hosts to make the recipe on-camera
  • Give our store team at least two months of advance notice to ensure that relevant products are in stock when digital assets are scheduled for publication
  • When time allows, review existing Milk Street photo, video, and editorial assets to repurpose for fresh content



  • Professional culinary training or completion of a college-level gastronomy or a culinary program
  • Strong understanding of platform-specific mechanics and the ability to articulate the component parts of successful Instagram and YouTube videos
  • An inherent understanding of visual language and the ability to successfully translate food and cooking to social media videos
  • Confidence working with and directing talent thoughtfully and productively
  • Ability to track and manage multiple projects with many parties and moving deadlines
  • Ability to be in the Boston office five days per week
  • Ability to track and meet deadlines under pressure



  • Proficiency with in-app editing tools
  • Proficiency in at least one video editing program and Photoshop
