There is something beautiful in the way community forms around coffee, and good food inspires good conversation. We opened our bakery in Essex, MA with the intention of offering our neighbors a place to get a simple but beautifully made cup of coffee, a delicious treat to nibble on, and a space to come together. We believe in purposeful consumption, and hope to provide our customers a product and business approach they can feel good about supporting. We are female-owned, source local and organic, and a Surfrider Foundation Ocean Friendly Restaurant.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a part-time position. Due to the seasonal and event based nature of our business, hours might fluctuate. An ideal candidate will be able to offer some flexibility in their work day. The morning baker may occasionally be asked to work a longer shift due to staffing needs or an event deadline. Additional hours will be compensated, and Mayflour will make every effort to reduce hours elsewhere in the same pay period.

The morning baker will work closely with business owner on daily production. This position has the opportunity to become a growth position with training, leadership and business development responsibilities if a candidate is interested.

Responsibilities:

Execute AM bake off (5am-9am) Thursday through Monday, or a minimum of 3 days, with the possibility for additional hours
Execute ongoing production of morning pastry and doughs
Assist in production of special order platters
Assist in recipe testing and menu development
Work alongside kitchen support staff
Participate in kitchen cleanliness and organization
Act as Person In Charge (PIC) overseeing food safety and handling and allergen awareness
Assist in ingredient and supply inventory
Partner with owner in minimizing waste and maximizing productivity

Requirements:

Experience making scones, enriched doughs and puff pastry
Basic understanding of MA Food Code principles
Ability to carry out multi-step recipes and procedures with independence and efficiency
Ability to work independently and within our small team
Willingness to learn and accept feedback, ability to give constructive feedback
Positivity and commitment to our mission and team
Reliability and willingness to take initiative
Effective and open communication in person and via email/text
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods of time

COMPENSATION

This position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
