Job Title: Prep Cook
Summary: Gourmet Kreyol is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our culinary team. As a Prep Cook, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of our kitchen. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in food preparation, following recipes and guidelines to create Gourmet Kreyol’s well loved dishes. Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Execute food preparation tasks according to standardized recipes and specific instructions from the head chef or kitchen manager. This includes chopping, dicing, slicing, and measuring ingredients accurately.
Ingredient Quality: Inspect and ensure the freshness and quality of all ingredients before incorporating them into recipes. Report any issues or discrepancies to the head chef.
Organization: Maintain a clean and well-organized work station, ensuring that all necessary ingredients and tools are readily available for use by line cooks during service.
Recipe Adherence: Follow recipes and portion control guidelines meticulously to guarantee consistent and high-quality food products for our customers.
Food Safety: Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling, labeling, and storage of food items. Take responsibility for maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.
Equipment Maintenance: Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
Inventory Management: Help monitor food inventory levels, report shortages, and assist in the rotation of perishable goods to minimize waste and ensure the kitchen operates smoothly.
Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other members of the kitchen team, communicating effectively to ensure a harmonious and efficient workflow.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a prep cook, or similar role in a food service establishment is preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge of proper food handling procedures and safety guidelines.
Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and culinary terminology.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes accurately.
Physical stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Team player with good communication skills.
Reliable transport to/from the scheduled location without taking multiple legs of public transportation.
Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
Self-motivated, with a positive, can-do attitude and a problem-solving mindset.
Able to lift at least 50 lbs and be able to spend 8 to 10 hours on foot daily.
Work up to a 20-40 hour week
