CSCA Scholarship Opportunities
The CSCA Alumni Association, a not-for-profit organization, launched the Kit Campaign Scholarship Fund in June 2005. The campaign is fully funded by CSCA alumni through monies raised during alumni fundraisers, workshops, and advanced classes.
The Kit Campaign was established by the Alumni Board of Directors in order to help ease tuition costs for incoming students. Part of the mandatory equipment needed by incoming CSCA students, the kits provide essential tools for the student chef. Not all prospective students are able to start their culinary education at a time when they are in the best financial position. As tuition costs increase, it becomes more difficult for many students to bear all of the expenses. Whether fresh out of high school or career changers whose jobs have been downsized or those who are looking to fulfill a long-delayed dream, many students are not able to cover the entire costs of paying for tuition, uniforms, knife and equipment kits, and other expenses without financial aid. Through the Kit Campaign, the Alumni Board hopes to alleviate a bit of the financial obligations new students face.
The equipment kit contains all kitchen essentials needed by a new student, including knife kit (four knives and a sharpening steel), two uniforms (pants, jackets, t-shirts, cap, apron), and myriad utensils. The value of the equipment kit is approximately 5% of tuition or around $1000.
As of May 2007, Wüsthof-Trident has agreed to donate the knives included in a student's equipment kit, allowing for more donation monies to reach students who demonstrate need. Wüsthof will donate an 8" or 10" chef's knife, a boning knife, bread knife, pairing knife, and a sharpening steel to the kit.
With an eye to the future, members of the Alumni Board hope to raise funds to provide a foundation of tuition support for new CSCA students. To date, 17 Kit Campaign Scholarships have been awarded.
